5 tips to help you move safely during the pandemic

All aspects of our lives have become more complicated due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Moving at any time can be stressful, and now, it seems like a huge headache.

Many aspects of our lives have become more complicated due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The safety of ourselves and our family is at the forefront of our minds, and the rules and regulations can change at short notice. Moving at any time can be stressful, but right now, it may seem like a huge headache.

But we shouldn’t put our lives on hold, we can still grasp opportunities and moving home can really enhance our lives. Perhaps you’ve found a new job, or maybe the pandemic has made you realise that you really need more space or a garden. Whatever the reasons, there’s no need to worry, with some forward planning, your move doesn’t have to be difficult at all.

  1. Sort out the logistics first

There may be extra hurdles, or delays when you’re moving during the pandemic. So do your research. Make a list of anything that can be sorted ahead of time such as setting up utilities etc. Be sure to have everything you need when you arrive. Food, equipment for minor repairs etc. This will make life a lot easier should shops be closed, or available supplies low.

  1. Check for any travel restrictions or limitations

You’ll need to fully understand any travel restrictions, and you should check regularly as guidance can change at any time. The rules regarding Covid-19 restrictions may well be different in the area you’re moving to so bear that in mind also. Check local official websites regularly to ensure you’re complying with all regulations.

  1. Minimise risks of contamination

In the past, when packing up to move, it may have been a case of ‘many hands make light work’ but in these times, it’s going to be best to keep the number of people handing your belongings to a minimum. It’s also a good idea to purchase new packing boxes for your move rather than repurposing old cardboard boxes as Covid-19 can linger on cardboard.

  1. A deep clean for your new place

When you arrive at your new home, you simply don’t know who has touched anything in the property, so it’s a very good idea to give the entire place a really good deep clean to give you peace of mind that everything is safe and hygienic. Disinfect all hard surfaces, paying extra close attention to high contact areas such as door handles.

  1. Hire an experienced moving company

It’s so important, now more than ever, to hire a moving company with lots of experience.  Choose a company that has a Covid-19 plan in place and one that is dedicated to keeping you, and themselves safe during these times. You need skilled movers that know what they are doing, that will pack and unpack with the minimum of fuss, so your move goes as smoothly as possible.
